One of the few artists living and working in Cornwall who was actually born in the county, Neil Pinkett comes from St Just in Penwith, a small mining village on the coast in west Cornwall.
Neil has a strong, intuitive sense of place, and the landscape and seascape he has known since childhood have proved lasting influences on his work.
"I have lived in Cornwall most of my life and exposure to such a dramatic environment inspired me to paint,” he said.
After an early career as an illustrator, Neil has become one of Cornwall’s foremost landscape painters, though he also paints further afield. His paintings have an energy all of their own and are gradually built up using multi-layers of oil paint scraped off and reapplied.
He explained: “I often work with a knife as I want to express as powerfully as I can the forces of nature, the ever changing elements, cloud formations, piercing blue skies over acres of red bracken, the raw beauty of the landscape.”
Neil had his first solo exhibition in 1996 and his work has since been exhibited at a number of venues across the UK. He has also toured in America.
