Philip Lyons was born in Devon and studied at Bristol College of Art where he developed a passion for colour and colour theory.
After further training at Goldsmiths College in London to become an art therapist and moving to Cornwall, he now works with children for the national health service – an experience which has also influenced his painting.
Phil looks for strong colour and patterns in compositions. He likes to look out for small things or little moments that often pass unnoticed. These everyday events are rarely given much time or thought, such as reflections on a wet pavement, a glimpse of one’s own shadow, light passing over a landscape or room, and an autumn leaf in a drain.
He exhibits widely across the South West from Cornwall to Bath, Oxford and London.
