Sara Clasper lives and works on the north coast of Cornwall. She has a strong following and her work is a vivid, bold and exciting depiction of the landscapes she encounters while exploring the coast and countryside around her studio in Portreath.
Influenced by artists such as David Bomberg, Wassily Kandinsky, Gabrielle Munter, Emile Nolde, Matthew Smith and Peter Lanyon, Sara seeks to express the ever-changing drama of the world with simple, strong drawing and vibrant colours, which challenge the eye and reflect the variety of patterns of both seasons and light.
Sara has been painting since leaving college in 1986 and has also worked as an art teacher.
In 1989 Sara was awarded a touring exhibition funded by Southern Arts. She has had a number of solo shows around the UK and has exhibited in group shows in London, Oxford, Penzance and Poland. She has in addition both worked and exhibited as an invited artist as part of the International Artists’ Plener at Kracsicczyn Castle, Poland.
Sara works in acrylic and oils and with silk screen. She makes sketches on her daily walks, which she then translates into paintings. Her landscapes dramatically celebrate the intensity of the colours she sees around her, and the strong use of pen and pencil overlay adds an extra element of energy and articulation to her subjects.
