Mutuality

It never ceases to amaze me the importance of good partnerships. I’m currently writing a TV series with an incredible team of people and although it’s me who lays pen to paper, the tips, thoughts and ideas that the incredibly experienced script consultant, etc. put forward are the quarry from which the final diamond is mined.
Lennon and McCartney were superb songwriters in their own right, but put them together, and something greater than their individual parts happened that is/was nothing short of magical. And there are hundreds of examples of great teams working for one mutual goal.
I guess it’s like playing tennis with someone better than you, you can’t help but improve. It’s why all our artists watch and learn from other painters. Although they ultimately paint their own work, they are all inspired by and driven to try new things from the inspiration they absorb from others. After all, no one is inventing the wheel.
Sadly, what can happen is that egos and personalities get in the way and partnerships fade or break. Whether a life, or business partner, when someone feels they are greater than the partnership they are in, there is little to hold that magical ‘glue’ together.
No one is an island. Life is all about working together and compromising for the sake of the whole. Whether a marriage, business partnership, political party or NGO, we need to work selflessly with others and, where possible, leave our egos at the door to achieve or mutual goals… on the world arena, now more than ever.
